No Child Goes Hungry: Gate of Hope's Winter Feeding Program for Afghan Boys

As temperatures dropped across Afghanistan, Gate of Hope opened its doors — filling long tables with bread, warm milk, and sweets, and filling the room with dozens of children who simply needed a meal and a moment of warmth.

When winter arrives in Afghanistan, hunger and cold arrive together. For children from impoverished households — orphans, street children, and those from families with no income — the season brings acute hardship. Gate of Hope's winter feeding program is a direct response: gathering boys from the community for a hot, nourishing meal when they need it most.

Dozens of children filed into the warmth of the room, their winter hats and layered clothing a reminder of the temperatures outside. Long tables were set with trays of bread, cups of milk, eggs, and plates of sweets — a simple spread, but one that carried enormous weight for children who may not have eaten that morning, or the night before.

The Gate of Hope banner stands at the front of the room not as a backdrop for a photo, but as a signal to every child present: this organisation sees you. You are not forgotten. In a country where the state cannot reliably provide for its most vulnerable citizens, organisations like Gate of Hope fill an essential and irreplaceable role.

Feeding programs like this run on donor generosity, and every contribution — however small — translates directly into meals for children. Gate of Hope is committed to sustaining this program through winter and beyond, because no child should face hunger alone. If you can help, please consider donating today.
