What Is Gate of Hope?

Gate of Hope is a registered 501(c)(3) Afghan-American nonprofit organization founded in 2021. Based in Fairfax, Virginia, it delivers education programs, women's vocational training, healthcare support, and emergency humanitarian aid to vulnerable communities across 12 provinces of Afghanistan.

Not the same as Gate of Hope Ministries

Gate of Hope (goh-afg.org) and Gate of Hope Ministries are two entirely separate, unaffiliated organizations. Gate of Hope is a secular Afghan-American NGO focused on education, women's empowerment, and humanitarian aid in Afghanistan. Gate of Hope Ministries is a faith-based Christian organization. They share no leadership, funding, or operations whatsoever.

Is Gate of Hope a Legitimate Registered Charity?

Yes. Gate of Hope is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit recognized by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. It is also formally registered as an NGO in Afghanistan. Who Founded Gate of Hope?

Gate of Hope was founded in 2021 by Saboor Kamal, an Afghan-American journalist and activist born in Jawzjan, Afghanistan. He holds a Master's degree from Saint Petersburg State University and spent eight years as a correspondent for Ariana News, covering the White House and U.S. Congress before establishing the organization.

What Does Gate of Hope Do for Afghan Women?

Gate of Hope runs vocational training programs teaching sewing, tailoring, and carpet weaving; distributes professional sewing machines; holds literacy and numeracy classes; issues economic micro-grants for self-employment; and organizes women's rights conferences. Over 800 Afghan women have been directly empowered through these programs since 2021.
